With _Truth Is Born of Arguments_, Locust takes one giant step further towards abstraction and suffuses the atmosphere with darkness and aggression rather than ambience. The title track shakes the foundation with a thundering beat, like heavy footsteps in a deep cavern, with little glitches to let you know that the sound is not human. “Penetration” slams into your ears with only Sarah peacock’s vocals to provide an outlet, while the stop-start patterns on “I Feel Cold Inside Because of the Things You Say” carry a fragmented weight. Looped glimpses of vocals reappear on “Saturated Love When We Coincide” amidst thick drums (a suggestion of Van Hoen’s work with Seefeel, perhaps), while “I May Never Know” has deliciously crunchy beats. “The Optimist” is decidedly smoother, even though it too is percussion-based, and “I Become Overwhelmed” has an almost-jazz trumpet coming through it. “The Love You Cruelly Gave Me Would Not Last” ends the album on a simple piano melody. Sad, yes, but beautiful throughout.

Without no doubt, this is THE best Locust album. The sounds and the songwriting are excellent. If you do not own it yet, do yourself a favour by adding this to your collection of electronic music. Love it Love it. The whole album is filled with wonderful ideas and powerful sounds ,witness Mark Van Hoen at his peak. Abslolute classic.

One of the most powerful records have owned. This was the last tough record locust made before going a bit soft. Amazing electronics and well integrated accoustics, worth checking out if your a fan of squarepusher or aphex (a noted champion of this lp). The first 3 trax alone blow 96% of my record collection away. Just bathe in that SOUND!
